This is the story on an encounter between an artist and an abandoned space that morphed into a 4 year giant studio work.
Since 2008 Gilbert1 went on a daily basis in this former school and its park. It was a way for him to clear up is mind and project his craziest ideas in a frame. Little by little, he decided to take over the space, first in hiding before deciding to contact the local authorities and offer to create a outdoor museum on the 25000 soft of facade and walls of the building. Several artists were to take over the walls, come to do residencies and workshops, creating life and cultural exchanges in this no man's land. The projects also included a home for homeless people.
He first, between 2009 and 2011 created an animated movie and a serie of painting on walls, inviting artists such as Nemo, Iemza, Rubio, Pome, Rodes, Lek et Dem189 to participate.
Then, since 2011 he has been trying to bring the project to its next steps, even though subventions did not go through and a lot of his equipment got stolen. The city council also accused him of being responsible for tags throughout the city and therefor refused to let him paint the visible outdoor walls of the building. Some of the works already done got damaged, some artists invited bailed and jaded, Gilbert1 delivers today a second step of the project, without the indoor pieces, he decided to name "The Broken Project"
This outdoor museum will in the end be destroyed in 2014 can be seen in Nancy, rue Marcell Dorr, till its destruction.
