Rolling With The OCBD Shirt.

When you read about Mods, and many other cultural styles, such as Skinheads, and those that like to adopt a Preppy or Ivy style. You will sometimes read the acronym “OCBD shirt”. This stands for Oxford Cloth Button Down. It is quite possibly the most popular style of shirt in the last century, in that it is stylish, and can be worn both casually and formally. Here I look into the history of the style. It’s origins and the popularity of this versatile and seemingly timeless garment.

When, it comes to the Harrington Jacket, I feel a sense of pride. I am from the North West of England. I was born in Salford and was brought up in Greater Manchester. For those that don’t know – the versatile and simply smart casual jacket originated in the form as we know it, in Manchester, the metropolis that was at the centre of England’s textile industry and had been, since the industrial revolution.

A Short History of 2 Tone Records (1979 - 1986)

The label was started in 1979, by Jerry Dammers of The Specials in the wake of the UK ska revival. It catered mainly for the musical tastes of skinheads, rudies and mod revivalists and released ska- and reggae-influenced music.

Tilbury Skinheads Documentary - BBC Radio 1980



If you ever find yourself heading south on the A13, chances are you are either lost or on your way to Tilbury in Essex. It is very much a town at the end of the line, as the Worlds End pub down by the docks testifies, and definitely not the sort of place you want to end up on your ownsome come nightfall.

40 Minutes "Skinheads" episode (October 14, 1982)



The "Skinheads" episode from the BBC TV documentary series 40 Minutes, which originally aired on the 14th of October, 1982. Features Chris Henderson and his band Combat 84. Quality is fairly poor but where else can you find it. Audio is slightly out of sync with video.
