The Shambolics on ZANI

Through a mutual follow on Twitter and a funny reply to a tweet a few months later was how I found out about a young local Kirkcaldy band called The Shambolics at the start of their career. My nephew Dylan who has the same taste in music as myself, not only followed the band but was also good mates with them.

Gazza Runs Riot!

Gazza was a god on the pitch and a hero to millions during an era of total domination for Rangers. 1978 FIFA World Cup TM on ZANI

The 11th staging of the World Cup TM was held in Argentina in 1978. The competition logo was based on the signature gesture of former President Juan Peron i.e., a salute to the crowd with both arms extended above his head. The design was had been in 1974, two years prior to the military coup in 1976. And whilst they tried to change the competition's logo, the design was already broadly commercialized and merchandise had already been made. A forced modification would automatically trigger a litany of lawsuits. against the country, and so the government dropped their objections.

In the Summer of 1977, Argentina’s World Cup was one year away. Argentina as hosts, were condemned to Friendly matches in preparations for their World Cup. To test themselves against worthy European Competition that they would surely be facing, the Argentine Federation invited many European nations to play vs. the national team that summer. Argentina under the control of a Junta led by General Videla was beset by political problems and terrorism. There were questions about their ability to host the event. The authorities wanted to showcase these friendlies to display to the world, their competence and willingness to host the Main Event without any problems.
