Alan McGee - A Quick Catch Up

alan mcgee sony zani 1

It has been some time since ZANI had a quick catch up with Alan McGee, so on one sunny day, with a little bit of rain and wind, we caught up with Alan in a hotel in the old smoke to have a quick natter about recent world events and the media’s take on them.

Chris Grant – Face to Face

/chris grant the grants matteo sedazzari zani 4.j“Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.”

‘Ohio’ Neil Young

Thus go the lyrics of a song released by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in June 1970. A song which pays reference  to the Kent State University shootings on 4th May 1970 in which the Ohio National Guard killed four students and wounded nine others during a students protest against Nixon’s invasion of Cambodia. Some major Radio Stations in the US banned the song upon it’s release, since the song attacked Nixon’s Presidency, and perhaps was the first record to
 publicly slate a US president.

Brian Cannon – From Microdot

brian cannon ian park zani 1.

Unbridled access to two of the country's biggest bands, a work ethic unmatched and a walk-the-walk rock 'n' roll attitude, Brian Cannon acted as Artistic Director for a number of projects with both Oasis and The Verve. He has also created work for a number of world-wide brands such as Converse and Levi's®. His company, Microdot, has just celebrated its twenty-year anniversary at the forefront of British Rock 'n' Roll.  To celebrate Brian's work and his achievements, I put some questions to Brian.

Bobby Gillespie - Archive Interview : From PEOM

/bobby gillespie zani 26

PEOM had a lot of good contributors like Dean Cavanagh, Ashley Heath of The Face, James Papa Demitri, Lee Green, Martin McIvor, Toni Tamborine, and photography by Grant Fleming. Around late 1994 when we were more of a music culture magazine then  an acid house fanzine, the latter issues were filled with well written articles and Paolo Hewitt Music journalist and writer was a regular contributor, and we were over the moon when he interviewed Bobby Gillespie for us. This gives you a great insight into Primal Screams front man.

Ian Curtis – Remembered Thirty Two Years On

/ian curtis matteo sedazzari zani 1

In two albums and five singles Ian Curtis managed to bring us all into his world. I was about twenty when he died I loved Joy Division as did Bobby Gillespie. But could have Ian Curtis have lived with the massive success that was coming his way, if he hadn’t had committed suicide, who knows ?  But Dead Souls, Isolation and Decades best describe the world that Ian inhabited.

In addition, he also summed up the seminal Factory Records in many ways, somehow Creation Records managed to do this without anybody dying. Factory Records had a death in their history and Ian Curtis was their biggest star really and still is. Off the top of my head, I think there have been now four films about Ian Curtis and Factory Records that says it all.

ZANI – It’s just half past midnight and news is slowly slipping through about the Oasis split

Alan McGee  -  It’s like the stones or something,  it is probably because they have been through so much, they just thought they were never going to call it a day.  But I think that the times we are living in, there seems to be a change in consciousness whether they feel it or not, whether it seems to be happening

Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs in depth

paul arthurs bonehead matteo sedazzari zani 1

The hot sun is beaming down on the face of the rhythm guitarist playing onstage in Mexico in 1999. On occasions he gazes up to the sun, he is slightly blinded by its glare and he is annoyed that he has left his sunglasses behind in the dressing room but happy he is no longer a plasterer from Manchester.

About Us

ZANI was conceived in late 2008 and the fan base gradually grew by word of mouth. Key contributors came from those of the music, film and fashion industry and the voice of ZANI grew louder. So, when in 2013 investor, contributor and fan of ZANI Alan McGee* offered his support to help restyle and relaunch the site it was inevitable that traffic would increase dramatically and continues to grow. *Alan McGee co-founder of Creation Records and new label 359 Music..
