Dear Bertie In Prison is a one-hour crime drama play. The performed reading will feature Mark Savage (an actor known to millions as Gripper in Grange Hill) and it’s happening on Saturday the 7th September at 3 pm the Hope Theatre, upstairs at the Hope and Anchor, 207 Upper Street, N1 1RL. A venue with a special place in rock'n'roll history.

Bertie Rosenthal is in prison for murder and robbery and is being interviewed by a writer working on a book on the Knightsbridge Heist - a job that Bertie masterminded.

Bertie describes himself as “old school” and does not fit in with contemporary criminals. He longs to be doing time with his peers – the “proper villains” who understand the code. As a consequence he has not spoken properly to anyone for months, so his testimony to the journalist comes out in a torrent of words. At the start of the play, Bertie is gregarious, talking fast with colourful criminal argot to describe his career in crime that began in childhood. He is extremely proud of his reputation of never turning informant, but when he gets to talking about the aftermath of the Knightsbridge job, it becomes clear that this code of silence is what put him in prison for a murder he did not commit.

ZANI was conceived in late 2008 and the fan base gradually grew by word of mouth. Key contributors came from those of the music, film and fashion industry and the voice of ZANI grew louder.
