The Vals, a bunch of lads from sunny Belfast, have just released their debut album
“Sticks and Stones” on the Unique/Electrique Mud Record label and what a cracker
it is! 11 tracks for your listening pleasure is what you'll get, so you're bound to find
something to tap yer feet to! The Vals are a six piece ensemble consisting of ...........
Paul Doherty – Vocals / Guitar, Owen Duffy – Bass, Marty Malone – Drums
Ronnie Cartwright – Guitar, Matt Rice – Keys and Jeremy Meaden – Trumpet.

So, lets delve into this 11 track album and pick out some of the highlights!
A good place to start would be at the beginning, so track one is “Too many people”
and it's a corker of a tune. A funky, psychedelic foot tapper that's well put together and
guaranteed to get you waving your arms wildly while spinning around on the spot....
....or tapping your foot perhaps, how you do your thing is your own business!
Track two is the aptly titled “Where I'm most alive”, with a catchy guitar intro to reel
you in and a kicking drum beat to boot, this track is a winner.

On to track six now andit's a magical, folksy style song called “Things will always be the same”. This song really had an impact on me and is definitely one to look out for. The final track on this album is “These little reasons” which to me sounded very “Beatles” like, although the
bands unique style shone through. Indeed, drawing a comparison with the fab four leads
me into a bit of name dropping. After the “Valfest”, a festival of music, love and peace,
the widow of the late great John Lennon, Yoko Ono, contacted Paul Doherty  to convey
her appreciation and admiration of how this event united people North and South.

The performers at this event included such musical luminaries as Wings guitarist Henry
Mc Cullogh and the Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell.If this album is a taste of what's to come
from the Vals, then we're in for a treat. With the vocal talents of Paul Doherty and the musical
mix of upbeat and mellow tunes, The Vals are one to keep an eye out for. For further details and
