Top Five Movie Buddies

movie buddies l

At ZANI we love films. A film can transport you, enlighten you, entertain you, educate you, move you and really get your mind going. One of those feelings that are pure magic is when you become so engrossed that you never want the film to end and the characters captivate you. You cry with them, feel their joy and you want to ease their pain.

Repulsion – A Classic Film

5 repulsion roman polanski catherine deneuve matteo sedazzari zani 6.

As the haunting drums start to beat and the camera zooms away  from the beautiful eyes of Catherine Deneuve, the start of Repulsion is; sinister exquisiteness.

Made in 1965, filmed in West London and shot in black and white, by a then relatively unknown young film director Roman Polanski, this being his second feature and first English speaking film.

Goodbye Gemini – The Death Of Hippy

goodbye gemini matteo sedazzari zani 1.j

In the mid sixties, the world saw the birth of hippies. A counter culture, which questioned so much about society, and was not afraid to suggest an alternative lifestyle to the norm. A spectacular movement, with colourful clothes, magnificent music in the guise of The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix and many more, with mind-bending drugs and free love. An ethos that went way beyond being a bored teenager, and got the whole world thinking.

Chris Wade - On His Malcolm McDowell Book

/malcolm mcdowell on screen by chris wade john bance zani 1.j

ZANI - How did you first discover Malcolm and what qualities does he have that makes him appeal to you?

Chris Wade - Well the first film I saw Malcolm in was Royal Flash because funnily enough I used to collect Bob Hoskins films. Actually Hoskins is a great actor, but that’s beside the point now. Hoskins had a small part in it. But when I saw Malcolm as Flashman, I just thought now there’s an actor I knew he was in Clockwork Orange but all the images of that film, the eyelash, the rape and all that, use to scare me when I was a kid. Besides it was still banned in the UK then.

Jonathan Owen – Dixie from Svengali

JO
We are living in a day and age, where success is achieved by a five-year business plan-well that is what corporate culture would like us to believe. A  belief system has been  emphasised that if you follow a certain set of guidelines then you will be a success and an upholding member of society.  However if you fail to follow this procedure then you will be an outcast, therefore deemed a failure.

Good Arrows Irvine Welsh's TV Directorial Debut

Good friends of ZANI, Irvine Welsh & Dean Cavanagh are about to start filming Good Arrows, the first film from their production company Jawbone. Irvine Welsh has been a busy lad lately: his new novel Crime has hit the shelves running and he's about to start work on a prequel to Trainspotting set in the early 1980's. Good Arrows sees Cavanagh and Welsh collaborating again after having made the BAFTA nominated Dose for BBC3 and the critically acclaimed Wedding Belles for CHANNEL 4. Wedding Belles caused quite a stir after the News Of The World called for it to be banned. ZANI want to know if we can expect any controversy from Good Arrows?

Caroline Munro The Fantasy Icon

caroline munro dracula christopher lee matteo sedazzari zani

“Being in the right place, at the right time,” is how Brian Jones, then of The Rolling Stones,   described the discovery of the band. Certainly there is more depth to Brian Jones’s statement. Nevertheless what is true with his train of thought is the essence and spirit of the 60’s. An era where new ideas and new acts, seemed to be an everyday occurrence.

Tamer Hassan He's No Mug

Tamar Hassan ZANI Matteo Sedazzari 1

For someone who never had the intention of ever being an actor, Tamer Hassan has certainly achieved a great deal of success. He has worked with the likes of Christian Bale, Bob Hoskins, Orlando Bloom, and Morgan Freeman. His career path all started from a small part in Eastenders in 2001. Tamer was fortunate enough to pass by the failed auditions, and wondering where his next meal was coming from.

About Us

ZANI was conceived in late 2008 and the fan base gradually grew by word of mouth. Key contributors came from those of the music, film and fashion industry and the voice of ZANI grew louder.
